personality: Being brought up in such a mollycoddled environment, living under the bubblewrap of his parents, he is quite naive when it comes to most things in the world. To him, there's nothing worse than someone backstabbing their friend, or making threats. The idea of confrontation makes his stomach churn in such a manner that he almost vomits, but that isn't to say he's a push over, if it comes to heads, Jamie is one of the more skilled students when it comes to hexing and reversible curses, the ones which cause more of a minor inconvenience for a few days at most, as a fair few of the opposing side at the Battle of Hogwarts found out. Through out his years of being at Hogwarts, however, his eyed had been opened to things he wasn't even aware would exist in the world, barely about to believe his eyes throughout the first few months, he had to learn to adapt to his new living conditions and the world he had been brought into. Using that, he's made adaptation something he can call upon in any given situation.
Confidence has never been one of Jamie's strongest suits, rather than boldly walking up to someone and initiating conversation, he would rather wait for someone else to come and do it for him, unless he has one of his out of character moments with a sudden burst of adrenaline. Along with that, if there's someone he finds ridiculously attractive in the room, it becomes more obvious, not that he isn't subtle with it, people in the room would notice that he would go shyer than usual and get a lot more quiet and timid. Class discussions were always fun for him during the time of his first ever 'straight boy crush', it was rare he would ever contribute in fear of tripping up over his words, or making a fool of himself by giving a totally invalid point.
Being muggle born, he had never understood why certain people wanted the world to be pure blooded, nor had he ever managed to get his head around the idea of someone being called 'mud blood'. To him, words were words. That being said, he will not stand for it if he finds someone being bullied or ridiculed for their blood status; while he doesn't get offended himself, he knows others do. A social justice warrior? Maybe. In his eyes, he's just looking for a world of pure equality, as unrealistic as that is.
Sometimes it is unclear to him as to why he was placed in Hufflepuff, he would have assumed he was more Ravenclaw material, which he put down to the fact that he had never missed a single assignment due date, nor had he got anything below 90% on any assignment or exam, alongside his late night revision and study sessions which he hosted, usually solo, in the Hufflepuff common room, always being courteous to the other boys in the dorm, ensuring he didn't wake them up. If there was something he knew, it was anyone can have quite a temper when they're tired, and he learned that fact from himself. There was nothing worse for him than being tired and hungry.
Having to learn how to deal with heartbreak has sent him into what can only be described as an emotional void, while still managing to hold up his morals, it would be rare to see a genuine smile from him, not that many people could tell the difference. With Jamie, he had become a master of acting and putting on that 'everything is alright' face, but things in Hogwarts have made him realise that there will never be loyalty like family, and family is the one thing he will fight for until the end.
history: Throughout his childhood, he was quite wrapped up in cotton wool, he never had any true realisation of the dangers of the world. He was never given stories of the 'big bad boogeyman', and he was still believing in Father Christmas and the birthday fairy until he was eleven, funnily enough, the day he got his Hogwarts letter. Coming from quite a well off family, living in the country side in a rather large house, but not quite large enough to be classed as a mansion, and being the son of two consultants in emergency medicine, he seemed to have his life set, with a career path facing towards following his parents. At the age of four, his brother joined the world, complications arose with his mother which left her hospitalised and bed bound for six weeks, putting major strain on his family bonds, especially with the new baby being brought into the world. His aunt had to come into play and help Jamie's father with looking after Jamie and his new brother until his mother was back to fighting fit and ready to go back into the world of reality and motherhood.
On his eleventh birthday, as mentioned, the letter arrived, the dead set giveaway that the birthday fairy didn't exist, in his parents' eyes, their faces a total picture of confusion and worry. Things didn't seem to make much sense, and to this day, Jamie still isn't sure what, or who, convinced them to let Jamie go and venture into this world, tapping bricks and running through walls to find a train that would take him cross country to a castle which only 'the magic can see'. It all seemed a bit far fetched, but equipped with his new little piece of wood, his robes, which as far as he were concerned, were disgusting, and a load of hocus pocus toys, as he called them up until now, he was off for his adventure. Things weren't about to get any easier, either. The year he entered Hogwarts was the year of the Basilisk, so to speak. Petrified for his safety in this school, he kept attempting to write home, but to only get no reply. He could only assume for whatever reason, the owls were getting lost. Of course, his parents were getting the letters, but they assumed he had lost the plot, gone crazy. A giant snake going around and freezing people? He could understand how they came to that conclusion. His relationship with his parents was beginning to get stronger again over the Summer before the second year, but it broke his heart knowing he had to return for his second year at school.
On his first day back at Hogwarts, he heard Dumbledore mention 'dementors', something which obviously brought a lot of hushed whispers around the great hall. Jamie himself was unsure of what they were, he didn't see the big deal, there, after all, was a murderer on the loose, right? They were they to protect everyone at the school. To make things even better, they had brought in a new teacher, who after a few lessons, had become one of Jamie's favourites, none other than good old Lupin. Things seemed to get weirder around Hogwarts, though, for someone who still hadn't quite adjusted to the wizarding world, this was all terrifying; he actually considered running away as an option. By some miracle, he survived, and with one of his favourite teachers resigning from the school, he was rather upset, but so glad to be heading back home to what he knew best, the way without magic and having to prepare food properly. Still, there was part of him that wanted so desperately to show his parents his new skills and what he could do with his wand, but it had been laid out perfectly clear to him that he couldn't do such a thing. He found it ridiculous that even though his whole family knew his 'deepest secret', he couldn't show them his abilities unless it was in dire emergency, as in life or death.
His third year was rather interesting, he managed to go to all of the events that were the TriWizard tournament, vaguely he remembered two students going around offering people odds on the survival and winner rates of the competitors. It was that year, he had noticed something about himself. While all the other boys in his year group were discussing how 'fine the girls from Beauxbatons are', he was eyeing up the champion from Durmstrang, and he wasn't even subtle about it. He was pretty sure a few times, Viktor must have caught him staring. Jamie just couldn't figure out why he was so drawn to look at the man, there was something compelling about him. The thing that finally topped it off and made it obvious for him was at the dance, when Jamie found an overwhelming sense of jealousy for Hermione Granger, the girl that Viktor had been dancing with all evening. He was gay. It was the turning point in his life for him, well, the second one. He now knew why he never could join in with discussions about how good looking the other girls in the school are. That was also the first time he had ever heard about this Voldemort person, or as most others called him, 'He Who Should Not Be Named'. At first, Jamie thought nothing of it, putting it all down to common myths, after all, it's the wizarding world, there had to be ridiculous rumours. That was until Harry came flying through with Cedric Diggory's body. Jamie had never felt so unsafe in the wizarding world before, and now he certainly did. He wasn't even aware that there were curses that could kill.
His fourth year seemed to be quite boring and mundane, there wasn't too much actually happening at the school, except that Umbridge woman, the despicable being that she was. He couldn't stand the woman, she seemed to be bringing in new rules as she went along, and to top it off, Jamie vividly remembered watching her attempt to fire Professor Trelawny in front of pretty much every single student going. Things seemed to be rapidly going down hill in this school, he wasn't even allowed to learn practically anymore, it was all theory, which obviously didn't help him. Being a more practical person. He had heard rumours of this Dumbledore's Army forming, he knew it was something he would want to be part of, and from how much he had heard, he knew the right people to go to, but there was no way he could get enough confidence to just walk up to Harry Potter himself and strike up conversation about it, what if he completely messed it up and made an idiot of himself?
Going back home for that Summer helped a lot, until his brother's birthday. His brother, being born in the Summer, meaning a lot of sunshine and his family get togethers and then awkward questions about how 'boarding school is going' for Jamie, got his own letter from Hogwarts. It gave Jamie a sinking feeling in his stomach, not because he didn't want his brother to learn about the magical world he now lived in, but because of the dangers that he would be facing at Hogwarts. Jamie had a long talk with his parents about the school and what had really been going on, giving them details of this Lord Voldemort and everything he knew, or thought he knew. Eventually his parents sent his brother to Hogwarts, but on the condition that Jamie would protect him, keep him away from any sort of danger and to keep tabs on him at all times, making sure he wouldn't fall in with the wrong crowd. Jamie also took this as a prime opportunity to come out to his parents. When's a better time than when he is telling his parents that the world they both live in is riddled with murderous wizards who could kill you with just two words?
Flying through the fifth year, he managed to snag himself a spot on the Quidditch team for the year as a chaser, he loved flying, playing and being part of a team with decent people. His fifth year was quite boring really, it didn't seem like there was much going on, not that directly affected him anyway, but he could still feel something darker in the atmosphere. Keep constant tabs on his brother was proving difficult, too. He had his own life to lead with his own essays to produce. This was also the year he would have to make decisions on which subjects he wanted to pursue, and what he wanted to do with his life. In all honesty, he had no idea, he considered a career in health care, but he knew it would be totally different to what he actually knew to do with health care. He assumed he would be dealing more with ailments which could be cured with a few spells. End of the year came through and things had finally been confirmed that everything was more than real for Jamie; Dumbledore had been killed and Death Eaters had managed to infiltrate the school.
During that Summer, Jamie begged his brother not to return to Hogwarts, he knew things were only going to get worse; every year he had been there, things had managed to somehow spiral into something even more terrible and unimaginable than the year before. With students being born to muggles not being allowed back at Hogwarts, Jamie knew something was going to go terribly wrong, there was something amiss with the whole entire situation for his liking. Keeping in contact with his then boyfriend was something that made things difficult, he couldn't even sneak out to see him and had to wait until the holidays to even spend some time with him. Somehow, they managed to make their relationship bloom. Being in a secret relationship was hard enough, the only people who knew about it were him and his family. That was up until the battle of Hogwarts. News had spread quickly, and when Jamie didn't get any word from his lover, he knew something was up, and it wasn't hard to put two and two together, especially when he got word from another friend of his with the total body count for the school. Something which Jamie had not managed to get over all Summer, he spent many nights up in his room bawling his eyes out, while his younger brother tried to comfort him. They both spent nights crying about the friends that they had lost during that fight, but then those tears also reminded them that this Voldemort danger was over.
For now.
