Hermione had written to Minvera McGonagall over the summer, asking her if they could have private lessons for her to learn to be an animagus. Today was their first lesson of the term, at the beginning of September and Hermione had arrived outside the Headmistresses office ten minutes early and was just waiting to be invited inside. She wasn't given the passcode, and wasn't sure if she would be later on or not. She didn't mind waiting, though. Hermione was grateful for the moments of peace, any of them that she could get.
She was also Head Girl and needed to discuss those affairs with the Headmistress as well. So, this meeting would serve a double purpose. Hermione would also not be surprised if they discussed... other affairs, too. Since they had just gone through a war together.

The sheer amount of work that Minerva had been overwhelmed by since the beginning of term was astounding. Yes, she might have been Deputy Head for a number of years, but being Headmistress was just that little bit different- as in, there was a stack of parchment on her desk the size of Big Ben, and it wasn't getting any smaller. In fact, she rather suspected that it was growing, which was an amazing feat as there hadn't been any owls all morning. The with was therefore somewhat surprised when she glanced at the clock that stood in the corner and noted that it was almost time for the private session which she had agreed on with Hermione, and if she knew the Gryffindor at all then the girl would have arrived early. Rising from her desk, she made her way swiftly down the spiral staircase to the foot, where she found Miss Granger on the other side of the griffin which guarded the staircase. "Miss Granger!" Minerva greeted with a rare smile. "I trust that you are well?"

The Headmistress soon arrived and greeted Hermione. Hermione returned the small smile and gave a short nod, "as well as I can be, Professor. Ready to learn," she said, standing up a little taller. She was a little nervous about all of this... not necessarily that she doubted her abilities, but mostly that she was unsure if she was in a place emotional that would be conducive to good learning. On the other hand, maybe having a project like this would give her more confidence, make her feel better and keep the bad dreams at bay. She had to stop worrying about everyone. Harry, Ron, Neville, Ginny. She needed more to focus on here at school. Not that being Head Girl wasn't enough already, for a regular person, but it wasn't enough for Hermione Granger. minerva mary mcgonagall

"Good, good."Minerva murmured vaguely. Truth be told, she was concerned. Not only for Miss Granger, but for all her students. After all, they'd been through a war. Even this year's Muggleborn first years had, although they might not have understood it at the time. They had still seen the reports of the deaths, the explosions, the chaos and carnage... It was a scar that ran deep in the wizarding world. It would take years to heal. It might never happen at all. But if it was the latter, then it would not be for lack of trying on Minerva McGonagall's part. She loved this world, and this castle in particular. How many times had she been prepared to pay for it with her life? Many, many times. But they were leaving the dark valleys now and heading up into the fresh air and the sunlight. Not for the first time, she had to remind herself that the way was over now.
"After you." She gestured up the spiralling staircase.
