In Ginny's opinion, it was far too early in the year for her to find herself in the library. OK, so Hermione practically lived there all year round, but the redheaded Weasley girl could think of many more interesting things to be doing with her time. But, as each and every professor seemed to be intent on reminding them every day, she was in her seventh year now, and that meant one thing. NEWTS. And she was already pretty certain that for her, they would be living up to their Nastily Exhausting name. Considering that Ginny usually avoided both revision and homework with a passion that most people would devote to some hidden talent, this year was certainly not going to be easy for her. It wasn't going to be easy for any of them. The castle might have been rebuilt, but there were illnesses in the mind that took far longer to repair, and they certainly weren't helping the concentration of either the students or the professors. Considering that she'd fought in the Battle of Hogwarts and had survived completely unharmed, she would have thought that she should have got an automatic pass in Defence Against The Dark Arts at least, but apparently this was not the case. How unfair was that!
So here she was, in the library already. Bag on her shoulder weighed down under the sheer number of books inside it and a sheet of parchment hanging from one hand, Ginny made her way through the aisles of the library, selecting relevant books and tucking them under one arm, and finally made her way towards a table. Her arm was aching under the strain and she didn't have the energy to look for another table, so she merely shot a smile at the Slytherin who was already seated there and asked "Mind if I sit here?"

As someone who prided herself on keeping both feet firmly planted on the ground, it wasn't often that Minerva found herself near the Quidditch pitch- save for during matches of course, but that was different. That was for Gryffindor. Today, however, the sunlight streaming through her office window had tempted her out into the great outdoors, and once she was there, there was no way that she was heading back into the somewhat oppressive warmth of the castle. Minerva was a Scot, born and bred, and there was nothing she liked better than feeling a cool breeze on her cheeks, unless it was seeing Gryffindor win the House Cup. That and the expression that it always put on Severus' face... Oh.
There she went again. Minerva still had trouble with coming to terms with the loss of her colleague. Oh, he'd never been the most sociable of beings, and he acted like a bat with a sore head on most days as well as being unashamedly biased towards Slytherin, but he had still been a colleague and, at the end of the day, a friend. They had been working towards the same goal, even if she hadn't known it during that last dreadful year... It had been a shock to the witch to discover that actually, Snape was acting on Dumbledore's orders all along. But then, how could she have known? Severus had been able to fool the Dark Lord himself, with all his skills at Legilimency. Minerva McGonagall was a capable witch and a good judge of character, but she couldn't compete with that.

"Good, good."Minerva murmured vaguely. Truth be told, she was concerned. Not only for Miss Granger, but for all her students. After all, they'd been through a war. Even this year's Muggleborn first years had, although they might not have understood it at the time. They had still seen the reports of the deaths, the explosions, the chaos and carnage... It was a scar that ran deep in the wizarding world. It would take years to heal. It might never happen at all. But if it was the latter, then it would not be for lack of trying on Minerva McGonagall's part. She loved this world, and this castle in particular. How many times had she been prepared to pay for it with her life? Many, many times. But they were leaving the dark valleys now and heading up into the fresh air and the sunlight. Not for the first time, she had to remind herself that the way was over now.
"After you." She gestured up the spiralling staircase.

Minerva was well wrapped up against the cold, a long scarf tied around her neck and a thick cloak hanging over her shoulders. Ordinarily, she would prefer not to be out at all, but today she couldn't stand to be inside any longer. The castle might have been rebuilt, but there were still tiny reminders of the battle that had scarred it. Not a problem for Minerva ordinarily- after all, the whole wizarding world was scarred- but today, there was something different. She couldn't quite make out why, but it was a strong feeling in her gut. So here she was, standing by the tranquil waters of the Black Lake and watching tiny waves rippling by the shore. It was quiet. Peaceful. Everything that the last year hadn't been. Minerva smiled slightly and took in a deep, slow breath. Maybe everything was going to be fine after all.

The sheer amount of work that Minerva had been overwhelmed by since the beginning of term was astounding. Yes, she might have been Deputy Head for a number of years, but being Headmistress was just that little bit different- as in, there was a stack of parchment on her desk the size of Big Ben, and it wasn't getting any smaller. In fact, she rather suspected that it was growing, which was an amazing feat as there hadn't been any owls all morning. The with was therefore somewhat surprised when she glanced at the clock that stood in the corner and noted that it was almost time for the private session which she had agreed on with Hermione, and if she knew the Gryffindor at all then the girl would have arrived early. Rising from her desk, she made her way swiftly down the spiral staircase to the foot, where she found Miss Granger on the other side of the griffin which guarded the staircase. "Miss Granger!" Minerva greeted with a rare smile. "I trust that you are well?"

Minerva Mary McGonagall
"God bless you all For the song you saved us" age: Sixty four date of birth: 4th October 1935 gender: Female sexuality: hetero house: Gryffindor year: N/A occupation: Headmistress and Professor or Transfiguration wand: 9 1/2", Fir, Dragon heartstring patronus: Cat - The day Voldemort was defeated boggart: Lord Voldemort - He killed many of her oldest friends, and she knew full well that he would kill her at the first opportunity. special ability: Animagus - Minerva was taught this ability by Albus Dumbledore, who was her Transfiguration professor during her time at school. playby: Maggie Smith
personality: Minerva McGonagall appears to be a stern, strict and unrelenting person on first sight. However, once one gets to know her, she is actually an incredibly warm and caring woman. She develops deep attachments to her friends, and will defend them to the death. This woman cares deeply about her students, both their work and their lives. But if you cross her, watch out! Any situation in which she perceives herself as being wronged will not be forgotten, and she will be avenged later on. Even if it is many years in the future. Minerva has a strong sense of right and wrong, and can't stand injustice. She also hates bullying. Anyone who attacks someone else, either physically or verbally, will be sorry for it- unless, that is, they have an extremely good reason. Minerva is firm, but definitely fair. Justice is one of her watchwords. This means that many people are somewhat scared of her. She can turn very cold if she sees people as doing something stupid, or wasting others' time. However, she does have a very dry sense of humour, though this is rarely exhibited- only when things are desperate. Minerva also has a sharp tongue, especially during arguments- although she usually keeps a tight control over her emotions. She rarely smiles or gives out compliments. history: Minerva was born in the Scottish Highlands to Robert McGonagall, and his wife Isobel Ross, who was a witch. She exhibited signs of magic from a very early age, Summoning things that she wanted while she was still a baby. Her mother couldn't conceal this from her husband, and was eventually forced to reveal all about the world of magic. The two remained together, and went on to have two other magical children. Minerva received her Hogwarts letter on her eleventh birthday, and attended the school under Professor Armando Dippet. The Sorting Hat wavered between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, but finally placed her in the former, a House that she later went on to lead. Minerva achieved top grades in both her OWLs and NEWTs, and was by this time both Head Girl and an Animagus. After she left the school, Minerva accepted a position at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and spent a few months with her family prior to taking it up. During these months, she suffered from heartbreak after falling in love with a Muggle man- Minerva decided that she couldn't marry him because of the International Statute of Secrecy, and left for London three days later. However, after only three years, she became dissatisfied with her job, and took a job teaching Transfiguration under Albus Dumbledore, who she later replaced as Head of the Department. She held this position all through the first wizarding war, and also spent many nights spying for the Ministry in her Animagus form. However, Minerva did not join the Order of the Phoenix during this period, since it was then viewed as a renegade outfit by the Ministry who she still had an allegiance to after holding the position there. Minerva survived the war, but lost her brother, several past students and also the Muggle who she had almost married, which was a particularly harsh blow for Minerva, who wondered whether she could have saved him were circumstances different. Minerva got on well with Harry Potter in later years, and kept a close eye on him during his school years for both his own sake and that of his parents. During the Second Wizarding War, she maintained her position at Hogwarts and did her best to protect the students who remained from the Death Eaters who controlled the school. On Harry Potter's return. she aided him in defending the school against Voldemort, and in fighting with the Death Eaters when they entered. Following the Battle of Hogwarts, she took up the position of Headmistress on the recommendation of the Minister and many others. However, she continued to maintain the position of Transfiguration professor, and that of Head of Gryffindor- at least until a suitable candidate made himself or herself available. --- alias: Jay age: 24 time zone: GMT other characters: N/A
